A boy who lives and works at Hotel Z, supporting the owner. Though sometimes a bit pushy, he has a kind heart and loves helping people and Pokémon. He's also quite skilled in Pokémon battles. He met the protagonist, who visited Lumiose City while recruiting for video promotions, and they became companions. While engrossed in conversation, the protagonist's bag was snatched by a Pancham, so Gai entrusted one of his starter Pokémon to help the protagonist. He scouted the protagonist into the MZ group and also offered housing to Deuro and Pyure in exchange for their joining. It seems he is searching for someone and has asked Machiell to assist in the search.

The protagonist of this series, born on November 4th. His face resembles a bottom, and he is known for his trademark checkered beret inherited from his father. A detective whose catchphrase is "Hmm, I smell something." When cornering a culprit, he says "Excuse me" before unleashing his special move—a powerful foul odor. Gentle with ladies and always calm and composed. He takes care to part his hair in a 7:3 ratio. Possessing a genius IQ of 1104 ("ii oshiri" meaning "good bottom"). He loves warm drinks and sweet treats, especially sweet potato desserts. On the other hand, he is very sensitive to spicy foods and can faint after just one bite. His hobbies include tea time and reading. He used to be enemies with Miyu (formerly Kaitou Cat), but now he considers her his partner, although Miyu does not share this view outwardly—perhaps deep down she does. He is often treated coldly by Miyu.

Unlike Giyu Tomioka from the anime Demon Slayer, his way of speaking is gentle and not cold like in the anime. He laughs often and plays the role of the straight man.
